Composer’s Comments :
Surf is about the dynamic interaction of people and the ocean.
The Ocean (the orchestra) is beautiful, vast, mysterious, serene, treacherous –
you don’t know what’s under you and it can crush you in an instant.
The Surfers (the soloists) are daring, rhapsodic, and finally transcendent…

As I created the work I came to see Surfing as a metaphor for life: our dreams, our struggles, our search for communion.
